Interference
Cut the line between an enemy piece and what it defends.
What is the interference?
Interference (also called obstruction) plants a piece between an enemy defender and the thing it protects, breaking the connection. The defender is still on the board, but its line of defence is blocked.
Why the interference matters
It is one of the rarer, more beautiful motifs, and because it is uncommon, players overlook it. Seeing interference marks a more mature tactical eye, and it solves positions where deflection and capture both fail.
How to use it to win
Find two enemy pieces connected along a line — one defending the other — and ask whether you can interpose a piece on that line, ideally with a threat so the block cannot simply be taken.
