Short puzzles

Two moves to win — the everyday combination.

What is the short puzzles?

A short puzzle takes two moves to win: a forcing first move, the opponent's reply, and the move that collects. It is the most common shape of real combinations.

Why the short puzzles matters

Two-move tactics are where most practical games are decided, so they are the sweet spot for everyday training. They build both recognition and a little calculation, without the time cost of long studies.

How to use it to win

Find the forcing first move, picture the most likely defence, and confirm the follow-up wins. If the first try fails to a clever defence, look for a different forcing move rather than forcing the line.
